Ambience sails weekend cruise to Holland Belgium

Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambience recently carried passengers on a four-night Weekend Escape to Holland and Belgium departing from Tilbury, offering a shorter alternative to traditional holidays. The ship, known for its intimate atmosphere and traditional feel, docked at IJmuiden and Amsterdam before a sea day and a visit to Zeebrugge. Travelers reported that the itinerary provided a full experience without requiring a full week away.

Ambience strikes a balance between size and intimacy. The vessel weighs about 70,000 tonnes and holds roughly 1,400 guests. Passengers described the ship as elegant and stylish, with a layout that makes navigation easy. The recent refurbishments gave many areas a contemporary look while keeping the character of a classic liner. Facilities include a library, shops, and various bars.

The Purple Turtle pub offers a distinctly British feel, hosting quizzes and live music. The Palladium theatre stages evening production shows. Passengers praised the number of lounges and bars, which include the SW19, Raffles, Pool Bar, and Observatory Lounge. The latter offers views from the top of the ship.

Accommodation on Deck 10 forward featured a balcony with two chairs, air conditioning, and plenty of wardrobe space. Cabins include a bathroom, shower, two beds made into a double, a small refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, and UK 3-pin sockets. Safety deposit boxes and hairdryers are also standard.

Dining and Spa

Dining options span from casual to formal. The Buckingham Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in two sittings. Borough Market on Deck 12 offers a buffet for all meals. An Al Fresco Grill operates when weather permits. For a special evening, passengers can choose the specialty restaurants Saffron (Indian and Asian) or Sea & Grass, which offers a tasting menu.

The GreenSea Spa and Wellness Centre is located on Deck 2 and features a fresh, contemporary design. It offers a range of beauty and therapy treatments at reasonable prices. A sea day provided a perfect opportunity for guests to relax with a treatment or enjoy the open decks and live music.

Destinations and Ports

The itinerary begins at IJmuiden, giving access to Amsterdam. The Dutch capital is famous for its historic canals and narrow town homes. A canal cruise, available as a ship excursion, allows passengers to see the city from the water. The historic centre offers a relaxed atmosphere for wandering.

Day three brought the ship to Zeebrugge, the gateway to Bruges. Bruges features cobbled streets, canals, and the Market Square with its Belfry. Side streets and bridges add to the city’s character. Passengers can also take a shuttle bus to Blankenberge, a seaside resort with a sandy beach, promenade, and shops.
